Tom Walsh wins World Indoor Gold
New Zealand shot putter Tom Walsh has won the shot put gold medal at the World Indoor Championships. He is the first New Zealand man to win a gold at the World Indoor Championships. Tom Walsh won a world indoor bronze in 2014, but he was in a class of his own on Saturday, at Portland’s Oregon Convention Centre in the United States of America. 24 years old dominated the final with five throws beyond 21 metres. His best throw of 21 metres 78 came in his sixth and final attempt. A distance that furthered the Oceania indoor record he’d broken with his second throw by 18 centimetres. Walsh joins Valerie Adams as the only New Zealanders to win World Indoor athletics titles.
