Labour Weekend Road Toll Ends At Three


New Zealand's Labour Weekend holiday road toll has finished at three, two less than the same period in 2015. The deaths included the country's first female Maori police detective. Seventy-nine-year-old Te Rauoriwa Daphne Pomare died after a head-on collision in Paekakariki on Sunday morning. She was taken to hospital with critical injuries, but died overnight. On Monday a 56-year-old man died when a motorcycle and car collided at Wallacetown, west of Invercargill. The accident happen at about 3pm on State Highway 99, police say. The man died at the scene and no one else was injured.
